High-quality JPG still means lossy JPG
In Privacy mode, the browser JPG encoder uses a 0.92 quality parameter. That is intended for high visual quality, but JPG is still lossy and the output is not identical to the HEIC source.
What happens during high-quality JPEG re-encoding
For HEIC to high quality JPG conversion, the image is decoded and encoded again as JPEG.
At normal viewing sizes, the visual difference may be small, but enlarged detail can reveal changes. HDR, 10-bit, wide-gamut, and source-container information also should not be assumed to survive unchanged.
Use Privacy or Cloud mode with the converter's current JPG settings. The converter does not expose any additional quality controls here.
Check the converted JPG before deleting the HEIC
A quick result check matters more than a lossless claim that JPG cannot support.
- Compare image dimensions and orientation.
- Inspect fine detail at the zoom level that matters to you.
- Check color and highlight behavior on important images.
- Verify any EXIF information you still need.

No. JPG is a lossy format. In Privacy mode, the browser encoder uses a high-quality setting, but the result is still not lossless, identical to the source, or zero-loss.
Check dimensions, orientation, fine detail, color, and any EXIF information you need before removing the original HEIC file.
PNG can avoid another JPEG-style lossy encoding step for the decoded pixels, but HEIC to PNG still does not preserve every original HEIC container feature.
