Use WebP for a web publishing workflow

WebP supports lossy and lossless encoding and is widely used for web images. Convert HEIC to WebP when the target website, CMS, or application accepts WebP and the image will be delivered on the web.

Good use

Website assets, CMS content, product imagery, and web applications that explicitly accept WebP.

The current converter does not expose mode, quality, resize, or metadata controls.

How to Convert HEIC to WebP

Select HEIC images, create separate WebP files, and check each result before publishing it.

  1. 1

    Choose HEIC images

Select one or multiple .heic files from your device.

  2. 2

    Convert the images to WebP

Start the conversion and follow the status of every selected file.

  3. 3

Download and test the WebP files

Check dimensions, orientation, visual quality, transparency when relevant, and compatibility with the target website or application.

Why Convert a HEIC Image to WebP?

HEIC is efficient for capture and storage, while WebP is designed for image delivery in web environments. Conversion is useful when a website or content workflow accepts WebP but does not accept HEIC.

  • Web delivery: use WebP when the site, browser support policy, and CMS are prepared for it.
  • Separate output file: keep the HEIC original and publish the WebP derivative.
  • Not a universal replacement: some forms, desktop applications, and older workflows still prefer JPG or PNG.

WebP Supports Lossy and Lossless Encoding

The WebP format supports both lossy and lossless image encoding. That format capability does not establish which mode a particular converter uses.

Current output controls

The current converter does not show a lossy or lossless selector, quality control, resize control, or target-size setting. Evaluate the downloaded result instead of assuming a mode.

WebP File Size and Visual Quality

A WebP result can be smaller or larger than the source HEIC. The outcome depends on image content, dimensions, encoding mode, quality settings used internally, metadata, and previous compression.

  • Fine detail: inspect text, hair, foliage, gradients, and sharp edges.
  • Dimensions: confirm the output pixel size.
  • Orientation: check that the image appears upright.
  • Actual delivery: measure the final file in the real website or CMS rather than comparing extensions alone.

Transparency, Animation, Metadata, and HEIC-Specific Data

WebP supports transparency and animation as format capabilities, but a normal static HEIC conversion does not automatically create an animated WebP or preserve every source feature.

  • Transparency: inspect the result when the source may include alpha.
  • Animation: a Live Photo video portion is not automatically converted into animated WebP.
  • Metadata: EXIF, GPS, timestamps, ICC information, HDR, depth, and auxiliary images may change or be removed.
  • Multiple images: do not assume that every image in a HEIC container becomes part of one WebP.
